Bio
and Introduction
Mark Greenough is a co-founder and director
of Living History Associates, Ltd., established
1986 in Richmond. He has been a history interpreter
at Richmond National Battlefield Park in 1980-1981
and a first-person living history interpreter
at Appomattox Court House National Historical
Park from 1982-1985. Mark also worked full-time
on the library staff of the Virginia Historical
Society in 1986-1987.
Since the early 1980s Mark has served as a
guest curator and living history interpreter
at Meadow Farm Museum in Henrico County. He
has also been a part-time interpretive supervisor
for the Maymont Foundation at the James H. Dooley
Mansion in Richmond. Mark often presents living
history programs at the Museum of the Confederacy,
Jamestown Island and Yorktown.
Mark worked as the historical and technical
advisor for the NBC television miniseries Gore
Vidal's Lincoln in 1987 and served as an advisor
for the Hallmark Hall of Fame production The
Love Letter in 1997. He has also worked on various
documentary films and historic site orientation
videos.
Mark is a certified tour guide and a frequent
lecturer for Elderhostel classes sponsored by
The College of William and Mary and other institutions.
His past and present memberships include the
Virginia Association of Museums, Virginia Historical
Society, the Greater Richmond Tourism Association,
and the Association of Living Historical Farms
and Agricultural Museums.
Mark has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History
(1984) and additional graduate work in historical
archeology, American material culture, and historiography
at the College of William and Mary. He is a
published author on military and social history
topics and has appeared on television and radio
programs to support the cultural value of history
and its effective presentation to a wider audience.
